Customer-Driven Electrification Strategy

Stellantis’ commitment to electrification is driven by the increasing demand for eco-conscious vehicles among customers worldwide. Over the past five years, eco-consciousness has emerged as the fastest-growing trend across generations, with 64% of respondents in a global study considering environmental preservation an important value.

Stellantis shares this vision, and it has become one of the company’s core values, reflected in its corporate purpose: “Powered by our diversity, we lead the way the world moves.”

Ambitious EV Sales Targets

Stellantis has set ambitious targets to drive the adoption of electric vehicles. The company aims for 100% of its sales in Europe and 50% of its sales in the United States to be battery electric vehicles (BEVs) by the end of this decade.

The company plans to offer more than 75 battery electric vehicle models to achieve this and aims to reach global annual BEV sales of 5 million units by 2030. These targets demonstrate Stellantis’ commitment to transforming its vehicle lineup and contributing to a sustainable future.

Tailored EV Platforms for Iconic Brands

Stellantis recognizes that electrification is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Each of the company’s 14 iconic brands has unique DNA, and Stellantis aims to enhance this DNA through its electrification strategy. Global engineering teams are developing vehicle platforms, propulsion systems, and energy storage systems that will cater to each brand’s specific characteristics and requirements. This approach ensures that Stellantis can deliver electric vehicles that maintain the brand’s identity while offering advanced technology and sustainable mobility.

STLA Medium Platform

Stellantis unveiled the first of its four global BEV-by-design platforms, the STLA Medium platform, in July 2023. This platform incorporates state-of-the-art features, including a best-in-class range of approximately 700 kilometers (435 miles), exceptional energy efficiency, embedded power, and charging capabilities.

The STLA Medium platform sets the stage for Stellantis to produce a range of electric vehicles that offer exceptional performance and meet customers’ evolving needs.

Flexible and Scalable EV Platforms

Stellantis is developing three different Electric Drive Modules (EDMs) that cover the entire global vehicle range, from the STLA Small platform to the STLA Frame platform. These third-generation EDMs are highly flexible and modular, with scalability ranging from 70kW to 330kW. This flexibility allows Stellantis to optimize overall cost efficiency while ensuring that each vehicle meets the specific requirements of its target market segment.

Additionally, Stellantis is developing a common power inverter for all three EDM families, incorporating scalable technology, a standard microprocessor, and in-house controls and software.

Advanced Battery Technology

Stellantis is investing in advanced battery technology to deliver competitive range and performance. The company plans to use two battery chemistries: a nickel cobalt-free alternative with a low and stable cost, optimized density, and a high energy-density option based on nickel. These two chemistries offer synergies, including shared processes and component materials.

It aims to introduce its first competitive solid-state battery technology by 2026, further enhancing the range, charging speed, and overall performance of its electric vehicles.

Expansion to Plug-in Hybrid and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles

While Stellantis is committed to the electrification of its vehicle lineup, it also recognizes the importance of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. The company’s award-winning Jeep® vehicles with 4xe plug-in hybrid propulsion have already gained popularity among consumers.

Moreover, it plans to offer more PHEVs across its brands, combining emissions-free electric propulsion with the extended range of internal combustion engines. Furthermore, Stellantis is applying its low-emissions propulsion technologies, including emissions-free hydrogen fuel cell power, to its light commercial vehicles.

Future-Proof Design and Sustainability

Stellantis is designing its electrified vehicles to be easily upgradeable, extending their lifespans and providing additional value to consumers. The company is also working with partners to develop next-generation batteries for light electric vehicles (LEVs), targeting greater range, faster recharge times of 32km/20 miles per minute, and longer battery life.

Stellantis’ electrification strategy encompasses a 360-degree view, ensuring access to key raw materials, promoting second-life use, and facilitating the recycling key components like battery packs. This commitment to sustainability aligns with Stellantis’ core value of caring for the future.

Conclusion

Stellantis is fully committed to the electrification of its vehicle lineup, with ambitious goals to achieve a significant share of its sales from battery electric vehicles by the end of this decade.

As the global auto industry drives towards electrification, Stellantis is poised to shape the future of mobility with its innovative and customer-centric approach. Through its comprehensive electrification strategy, the compnay aims to offer exciting and class-leading electric vehicles across its iconic brands.
